Frozen Memories
Life was close to perfect for sixteen-year-old Phyllis Anderson until the moment she opened the door to her family home and found her parents and younger sister had been slain. Seconds later, she heard her baby brother beg for his life before the sound of gunfire killed the last of her immediate family members.
Frightened for her life, and horrified by what she had witnessed, the teen-aged girl perilously hid in a hallway closet, paralyzed by the thought that the killer would eventually find her and deliver the same fate to her as he had to her family. She remained silent as she heard the killer frantically searching the home and calling out her name.
Gripped with fear and trepidation, she remained hidden for hours before hearing voices outside the closet. She could feel her heart thumping hard in her chest as she heard a voice count to three before the closet doorknob began turning. Fearing her death was near as the door opened, she covered her head and begged not to be shot, only to hear the reassuring voice of St. Helena Patrolman Greg Wilson.
Traumatized by the deaths of her parents and younger siblings, Sammy and Ryan, Phyllis struggled to cope, finding it difficult to make friends, complete schoolwork, hold on to a job or stay in relationships, while always believing the killer, who had eluded police for many years, would ultimately find her and complete the job of murdering her entire family.
Get It NowThe Election
Brendan Murphy was a personable, athletic and level-headed young man when he decided his college of choice would be Columbia University, selecting it over the other contenders. He had considered the University of Maryland, as well as Tulane, Dartmouth and Penn State, but he ultimately decided that Columbia was the place where he would further his education, even though he wasn't yet sure what path that education would take. Less than a week into his freshman year, Brendan knew he had made the right choice when he met Jenny Daniels, and the two became inseparable.
Jenny was a tall red headed girl who played volleyball for Columbia and quickly became as smitten with Brendan as he was for her, falling for both his good looks and his charming personality. Jenny's passion for life was infectious, and her loyalty knew no bounds. While Jenny knew she wanted to pursue psychology early on in her college career, Brendan wasn't certain of his future plans, until he had a heart-to-heart talk with Professor Thomas Duncan. Duncan opened Brendan's eyes to political debate, and fueled a fire that Brendan never realized was burning inside himself.
Driven by his new passion for debate and politics, Brendan, referred by his college professor, volunteered to assist Democrat Hector Rodriguez in his attempt to be re-elected as a New York City Councilman. Upon graduating from Columbia, Brendan and Jenny became engaged and settled down in northern, New Jersey. After a brief stint working for his uncle's private detective agency, Brendan began a career as a political consultant, first for the New Jersey Republicans and then creating his own consulting firm working on campaigns for both parties as high as the office of U.S. President.
Preferring to be behind the scenes as a consultant, Brendan turned down many opportunities to be out front as a campaign manager, but years later, when Hector Rodriguez personally requested Brendan serve as his campaign manager in Rodriguez's attempt to become mayor of New York City, Brendan felt the time was right for a new challenge. Thomas Duncan, Brendan's good friend and old college professor soon joined the Rodriguez team.
Well aware of how personal and dirty elections could be, Brendan swiftly learned he had no idea what he signed up for, but he soon had regrets and fears, especially when opponent Patrick Doyle began a vicious campaign against both Brendan and Hector Rodriguez. To make matters worse, Brendan began to have dire concerns over his own candidate's worthiness for office and the internal conflicts inside of him made the final weeks of The Election more of a challenge than he bargained for.
